Vision:
Our vision is a world in which there is equity; a key ingredient of long-term development. Equity is concerned with achieving justice, fairness and elimination of discrimination. We believe that enhancing equity within societies and among countries provides a promising engine for further improvements, both in striving towards justice, and also making progress on economic, social and environmental outcomes in the long run..
Mission:
To promote greater equity for development through rigorous and unbiased analysis and research, capacity building and communications, that would influence changes in policies and institutions.
Strategic Objectives: - To build capacity for policy-oriented research.
- Generate new knowledge using new and constructive thinking that incorporates both theoretical and practical approaches.
- To promote links between equity, growth and long-term development.
- Capacity development for individuals and institutions
- Facilitate knowledge dissemination and sharing.
- To strengthen partnerships between researchers, policy makers, private sector and civil society.
|
Main Activities:
- Socio-economic Research and Policy studies
- Training and attachment
- Workshops, seminars, forums, meetings, conferences, etc.
- Develop critical training materials for use by policy makers, private sector and civil society.
Many of CSRT's activities are designed and managed within two program areas: Research and Training.
Established: |
The Center for Social-Economic Research and Training (CSRT) is an independent non-profit research and training Institution established by an association of Ugandan professionals in the arts and sciences, in September 2006. |
Institutional Structure
The centre is governed by a Board of ten directors originating from several institutions including Research organizations, Non-government organizations (NGOs), public and private sectors, and civil society.
The day to day activities of the centre are managed by an Executive Director assisted by a Finance and Administration Manager. The programs are executed by the Executive Director and researchers with government, community, commercial and international experience. In addition the centre works closely with a diverse range of clients and research partners at both local and international level including Research organizations, NGOs, public and private sectors, and civil society.
The Centre has over 30 highly qualified resource persons with technical expertise in various fields including monitoring and evaluation, development, peace and conflicts, Gender, governance, environment, information and communication technology.
Research
CSRT research is clustered within seven thematic areas: (i)
Development (ii) Peace and conflicts (iii) Gender (iv) Governance
(v) Information and Communication Technology (vi) Environment
(vii) Monitoring and Evaluation, (viii) Public Health
Capacity Development
CSRT has a strong commitment to capacity development especially aimed at strengthening individual and institutional capacities in African countries by promoting self-reliant development and providing opportunities for its partners to participate in CSRT research, training and knowledge sharing activities.
Training
CSRT organises short-duration training courses and workshops of between 2 days to 2 weeks duration in a number of specialised areas. CSRT also hosts visiting researchers who may conduct research on a topic related to the research programme of the centre, or contribute to training and capacity-building initiatives at the centre.
Knowledge dissemination and sharing
CSRT attaches importance to getting the "right" knowledge to the people who need it the most, in a timely manner and in a useful form. The main modes of knowledge dissemination and sharing are working papers, articles and newsletters, as well as conferences, workshops, forums, presentations, guest lectures, and electronic media (including CD-ROMs and the Internet).
